About 20 years ago, I wished there was more for my children to do on the weekends with friends that was fun, but safe. During the early years, it seemed easier with sports and family activities to keep them busy. As they got older, they were not interested in sports and wanted to hang with their friends, but the never-ending question was, “What can we do?”. But I didn’t have the money or time to make a big impact. Fast forward to January of 2019, and this idea was placed on my heart again.
A simple night out to dinner with my husband. While waiting on a table, I looked around and saw four young teenage girls waiting for their table. Their heads were down, all looking at their smart phones. Looking around the restaurant, I saw most people doing the same thing at their tables. Shouldn't this be a time to talk with one another? It hit me that our society is losing crucial social skills. Kids, even 20 years later, still need safe and fun things to do, and now parents need more help than ever with technology so easily accessible. My daughter Katy agreed, and we decided to start our nonprofit. The crazy thing is the month we applied for our 501 (c)(3), the country shut down, and all we had was social media to keep us connected. Although, technology isn't enough. We need human interaction.
It’s time to encourage kids to enjoy in-person relationships, which are vital to increase happiness and thrive in this world. Our top priority is to provide ways to have more positive interactions with family and friends. We are here to help families by creating ways to strengthen communications and closeness in the home, and plan fun activities to do around the community. We want to inspire you to have more personal interactions!!
